Chateau Latour Le Pauillac de Latour 2018
The Pauillac is made primarily from young vines, growing on the less prestigious terroirs in the vineyard, and from wines that do not meet the selection criteria for Forts de Latour (specific to each vintage).
About 20% new barrels are used in the vinification of the Pauillac, the precise proportion varying depending on the characteristics of the vintage. The blend for Chteau Latours Pauillac typically consists of nearly 45% Merlot.

This is already very complex with tobacco, blackberries and hints of cedar. Its medium-bodied with firm and layered tannins. Juicy and so delicious. It can age, too. Delightful now, but better after 2025.

I’m always shocked at the quality of the base Pauillac from this chteau, but I guess at this point I shouldn’t be, given that it’s outstanding in just about every vintage. The 2018 Le Pauillac De Chteau Latour has a medium to full-bodied, ripe, rounded, even sexy style as well as sunny aromatics of red and black fruits, smoked tobacco, and lead pencil shavings. It’s balanced, concentrated, and incredibly satisfying.
